Crime Simulator Common Mistakes: 10 Critical Errors New Players Make

I made every mistake on this list during my first few hours of Crime Simulator. Some cost me a single heist. Others cost me entire Hardcore runs. Here is what I learned so you do not have to learn it the same way.

Mistake 1: Selling Gold Bars for Quick Cash

This is the single most expensive mistake new players make. Gold bars are not loot -- they are currency for basement upgrades. Selling a gold bar for $800-$1,500 seems like great early-game money, but that same bar funds a Storage Rack upgrade that increases your stash capacity by 50%.

The Storage Rack (2 bars) pays for itself within 5 runs by letting you hold more high-value items for requests. The full basement upgrade chain (18 bars total) unlocks powerful permanent bonuses.

Solution: Never sell a gold bar until your basement is fully upgraded. Stash it in your hideout immediately after finding one.

Mistake 2: Buying Hideout Decorations Before Essential Tools

I bought a poster for my wall during my first run. It cost $200 and did nothing for my progression. That $200 could have been a lockpick upgrade that earned $500+ over the next few runs.

Solution: Every dollar in the first 5 hours goes into tools. Lockpick set, flashlight, sleeping gas, cable ties. Decorate your hideout after you have a $5,000 cash buffer and full tool upgrades.

Mistake 3: Ignoring the Item Request Board

The item request board offers 50-100% premium over fence prices. I spent my first 2 hours selling everything to the nearest fence and losing out on hundreds of dollars per run.

Solution: Check the request board before every heist. Store matching items in your hideout. The loot selling strategy explains how to stack requests for maximum profit. Deliver on your next visit to that map area. Keep 2-3 common request items (laptops, jewelry, smartphones) in storage at all times.

Mistake 4: Using the Crowbar on Every Door

The crowbar is loud. Every door you crowbar has a chance of alerting NPCs and triggering a police response. I lost my first Hardcore run to crowbar noise.

Solution: Buy a lockpick set as your first tool purchase. The tools guide compares every tool option so you know exactly what to buy next. Use it on every door. Only use the crowbar for breaking crates or as an absolute last resort. The lockpick set pays for itself within 2-3 heists.

Mistake 5: Trying to Loot Every Room

Greed is the most common cause of arrest. You clear 3 rooms cleanly and think "one more room." That is where the patrol rounds the corner.

Solution: Set a hard limit before entering each house. "I grab 3 items and leave." Or set a time limit. "I am out in 90 seconds." Stick to it. Leave loot behind. Live to heist another day.

Mistake 6: Not Checking Job Board Intel

Every job on the board has a description that tells you what is inside the house. "Home office" means a laptop is likely. "Electronics enthusiast" means multiple high-value electronics items.

Solution: Read the job description before accepting. If it mentions a "tech worker" or "home office," that house is worth prioritizing. If it says "minimal valuables," skip it for a better target.

Mistake 7: Carrying Too Much Loot Before Visiting the Hideout

Every item in your inventory is at risk until you stash it. I once hauled $2,000 worth of loot from 3 consecutive houses without visiting the hideout. Got caught on house 4. Lost everything.

Solution: Visit your hideout after every 2-3 houses. Yes, it takes time to travel back. Yes, it is safer than carrying $1,500+ worth of loot in your inventory. The game saves at the hideout -- use it as a checkpoint.

Mistake 8: Selling Skill Leaflets Before Reading Them

Skill leaflets are one-time unlocks. If you sell a leaflet without reading it first, you might never find that skill again. I sold Tool Maintenance during my first session and did not find another copy for 15 hours.

Solution: Read every skill leaflet immediately when you find it. Even if you plan to prioritize a different skill, reading it first costs nothing. Duplicate leaflets can be sold for $300-$500 each.

Mistake 9: Playing Hardcore Mode Too Early

Hardcore mode deletes your save on arrest. I attempted it after 2 hours of play and lost 4 runs within an hour. The police are more aggressive, quotas are higher, and fence prices are lower.

Solution: Complete Standard mode to at least Rank 12 before attempting Hardcore. You should be able to clear 5+ houses without triggering any alarms. You should know every map layout by memory. See the Hardcore Survival Guide for a readiness checklist.

Mistake 10: Running in the Open During Police Chases

When police are searching, sprinting is the worst thing you can do. Footsteps are audible, movement is visible, and the search area shrinks around your location.

Solution: Hide immediately when you hear sirens. Stay still in a closet or bathroom until the search indicator fully disappears. Wait an extra 10-15 seconds. Then crouch-walk to the nearest exit. Do not sprint until you are at least one block away.

Mistake 11 (Bonus): Not Using the Save Trick

If you are about to be arrested and have not visited the hideout during that run, quit to menu. The game only saves at the hideout. You will respawn at your hideout with all your loot intact.

Solution: Use this sparingly. It is a safety net, not a strategy. If you rely on it too much, you will never learn proper evasion. I allow myself one use per session.

Common Mistakes Checklist

Use this before starting each session:

  • [ ] Have I checked the item request board?
  • [ ] Do I have backup tools in my hideout stash?
  • [ ] Have I read all skill leaflets before selling duplicates?
  • [ ] Are my gold bars safely in the hideout?
  • [ ] Do I know my escape route for the district I am targeting?
  • [ ] Have I spent all cash on useful tools (not decorations)?
  • [ ] Is my hideout storage organized (requests vs. fence items)?
