Your hideout serves several critical functions:

• Storage: Keep loot between runs for item requests or bulk selling
• Safe zone: Police cannot enter your hideout -- get here and you are safe
• Save point: The game autosaves when you visit your hideout
• Job board: Accept heist contracts and item requests
• Upgrades: Basement expansion (Update 1.3) unlocks powerful bonuses

Update 1.3 added a hideout basement expansion system. Gold bars (a new resource) are used to purchase upgrades that provide permanent bonuses.

How the Security Door Works

The Security Door upgrade protects your stash when you are arrested. Without it, you lose everything in the hideout on arrest (Hardcore) or lose a portion (Standard). With the Security Door, your stored loot is protected.

This is a critical upgrade for Hardcore mode players. In Standard mode it is less urgent but still valuable for long-term progression.

Tool Stash Management

Keeping backup tools is cheaper than buying replacements after a failed heist.

Recommended backup stash:

• 1 backup lockpick set (get caught without one and you cannot enter houses)
• 1 backup flashlight (dead flashlight = missed loot)
• 1 sleeping gas (emergency NPC removal)
• 2-3 cable ties (NPC restraint)

Storage strategy for tools:

• Dedicate 4-5 storage slots to backup tools
• Rotate tools: when your primary breaks, grab the backup and repair the primary
• Never dip below one backup of each essential tool

Hideout Layout Tips

While you cannot redesign your hideout, you can organize your storage efficiently:

• Left side of stash: High-value items for requests (laptops, jewelry, gold bars)
• Right side of stash: Backup tools and equipment
• Bottom rows: Bulk items you plan to fence soon
• Tool wall (if upgraded): Display your best tools for quick access

Practical Example: Storage Optimization

Here is my actual stash layout after 10 hours of gameplay:

Permanent storage (always kept):

• 2 gold bars (saving for basement upgrades)
• 2 laptops (request items)
• 3 jewelry pieces (request items, authentic)
• 1 set of backup tools (lockpick, flashlight, gas, cables)

Temporary storage (sold within 2 runs):

• Any duplicates of requested items
• Extra skill leaflet duplicates
• Mid-value electronics if storage is full

This setup lets me accept any item request that appears, while keeping my stash lean enough to add new loot without needing to sell mid-run.

Co-op Hideout Sharing

In co-op mode, all players share the same hideout. Storage is shared. This requires coordination:

• Designate one player as the "stash manager" who organizes items
• Pool high-value items for requests before individual selling
• Communicate what you are storing so duplicates are minimized
• Avoid storing items that another player plans to sell immediately
