Most new players sell every item they find to the nearest fence immediately. I did this for my first few hours and left a lot of money on the table.

The fastest way from zero to quota (what I settled on): stack item requests, sell duplicate skill leaflets before basic loot, and never fence high-value items at the same fence twice in one day -- prices drop.

The Four Rules of Loot Selling

Rule 1: Item Requests First

The item request system offers 50-100% premium over fence prices. Before selling anything, I check the request board, mark requested items, and keep them in stash. Deliver on the next visit to that map area.

If an item appears on multiple request lists simultaneously, its value multiplies. A laptop worth $200 at the fence could net $350-$400 if delivered to two requesting NPCs.

Keep a dedicated stash section for request items. I organize mine by item type so I can grab-and-deliver quickly. Electronics in one stack, jewelry in another. This saves 5-10 minutes of sorting every run.

Rule 2: Duplicate Skill Leaflets

Skill leaflets are a hidden cash cow. Once I have learned a skill, any duplicate leaflet sells for a premium -- roughly $300-$500 based on what I have seen. I check all special boxes during heists because they occasionally drop leaflets. Never sell a leaflet you have not read first.

Some leaflets are rarer than others. The Tool Maintenance and Advanced Lockpicking leaflets are common enough that you will find duplicates eventually. The Rare skill leaflets (like Jewelry Appraisal) are harder to find duplicates of but sell for higher premiums.

Rule 3: Fence Price Fluctuation

Fences reduce buy prices if you sell too much of the same item type in a single day. I work around this by:

  • Selling different item types in rotation
  • Waiting a full game day before selling the same category again
  • Using different fences on different maps
Item CategoryFence Price (First Sale)Fence Price (5th+ Sale)Best Strategy
Electronics$200-$300$120-$180Sell 2-3 per fence, rotate
Jewelry$100-$800$60-$500Sell authentic via requests only
Household$30-$50$15-$30Sell all at once, low priority
Skill Leaflets$300-$500Same (no degradation)Always sell duplicates

Skill leaflets are the only item type that does not suffer from price degradation. Sell as many duplicates as you find without worrying about diminishing returns. This makes repeated skill leaflet farming a viable mid-game income strategy.

Rule 4: Jobs Over Fencing

Job board contracts pay guaranteed cash rather than variable fence prices. I complete every available job before free-roam selling. Jobs count toward quota, freeing your loot for item requests or better fence prices.

A typical job pays $200-$500 plus rank XP. Compare that to fencing the same items for $150-$400 with price degradation. Jobs are almost always the better deal when available.

The Rotation I Use

  1. Morning: check job board, accept jobs
  2. Mid-day: rob houses targeting job-related objects
  3. Check: verify item request status for items found
  4. Evening: deliver requested items, fence the rest
  5. Return: go to hideout, check if quota is met

This cycle takes about 20-30 minutes per game day and consistently beats quota by 30-50% compared to selling everything immediately.

Fence Locations by Map

Knowing where your fences are saves running across the map with full inventory. Each district has at least one fence:

DistrictFence LocationBest for Selling
Starter TownNear the hideout, east sideEarly-game loot
SuburbanSouth end of main streetElectronics, jewelry
IndustrialInside the warehouse districtTools, heavy items
DowntownAlley behind main plazaHigh-value items

Fences in different districts have slightly different price ranges. I have noticed the Suburban fence pays about 10% more for electronics than the Starter Town fence. The difference is small but adds up over 20+ heists.

What to Prioritize in Your Inventory

Your inventory slots are limited. Carry the most valuable items first and leave low-value items behind.

PriorityItem TypeReason
1Skill leaflets (duplicate)$300-$500, no price degradation
2Request-matched items+50-100% premium
3Gold barsUpgrade currency, never sell
4Authentic jewelry$400-$800, best for requests
5Electronics (laptops, tablets)$150-$300, best value per slot
6Cash stacks$50-$150, weightless
7Fake jewelry$50-$200, fence immediately
8Small valuables (watches)$40-$100

Practical Example: Optimizing a Single Run

Here is a real example from a mid-game run I did:

I hit a suburban house and found: 1 laptop ($280 at fence), 1 tablet ($190), 1 smartphone ($120), 2 kitchen appliances ($40 each), and 1 silverware set ($70).

Instead of selling to the nearest fence immediately, I checked the request board first. The laptop and silverware were both on request lists. Total from requests: laptop $420 (+$140 premium) + silverware $130 (+$60 premium) = $550. Balance fenced at a different fence: tablet $190 + smartphone $120 + appliances $80 = $390. Total: $940 vs. $740 selling everything at one fence. An extra $200 for 2 minutes of checking the board.
